When a twitter campaign goes south

Comcast decided it would be a good idea to have a twitter campaign using the hashtag "#ComcastCaresDay".   As I'm sure you all can imagine, it went horribly south. Click read more to see all the tweets I'm talking about.
The funny thing about this happening today, is that literally one hour ago I presented a project for my Business Communications class that was all about a Canadian airline company that had a twitter campaign that crashed and burned. People were sending the airline company tweets about missing important family events due to the flights being delayed. So it is funny to come back from the class and hear that Comcast is going through the exact same scenario. Here are some of the best tweets I was able to find from this Comcast twitter crisis.

Show someone you care. Bill them for the three weeks their cable was out due to a hurricane. #ComcastCaresDay

In honor of #ComcastCaresDay I'm also going to put everyone who calls me on hold for 20 minutes and then eventually hang up.

#ComcastCaresDay unless you're an existing customer of course - you know what I'm saying

Comcast customer service reps hung up on me three times in a row one day#ComcastCaresDay

Great stuff from the people here, and every tweet is spot on. My family used to have Comcast for years, and we ran into all of these problems. Eventually we ditched them for Verizon, and while they are not that much better, they do have a better customer service program. While all these tweets will obviously be seen and reported to management at Comcast, it is likely anything will come of this. If Comcast cared about their customer service, and the responses they get form the users then they would be a completely different company. All people can do is switch to a different TV and Internet provider and hope that Comcast is forced to change their business plan and try to actual care about their customers.
