a blog by Iron Horse The Dallas Stars were obliterated at home in Game 7 last night against the St. Louis Blues 6-1, let's take a look back out how this happened, and how this series even went to a game 7. This series shockingly went 7 games, the Dallas Stars actually put on a quite impressive performance this postseason whilst missing arguably their best player. Here's how the series came out in the track record. 5/11@ Dallas (STL W 6-1) 5/9 @ St. Louis (DAL W 3-2) 5/7 @ Dallas (STL W 4-1) 5/5 @ St. Louis (DAL W 3-2) 5/3 @ St. Louis (STL W 6-1) 5/1 @ Dallas (STL W 4-3) 4/29 @ Dallas (DAL W 2-1) This series was incredible to me and only confirms my new suspicion that whoever comes out of this other Game 7 tonight between Nashville and San Jose will end up going to the Cup Final. If you look at the games in this series St. Louis only won 1, one goal game throughout this whole series. In this series there were 4 games decided by 1 goal, Dallas won 3 of them. In the other 3 games combined though Dallas had their doors blown off with a combined score of 16-3, this is a goal-tending issue no doubt. I've said since the beginning that the Stars didn't have a goalie that would take them this deep, granted I said the same thing about the Penguins, only this time I was right. Last night was the "creme de la craux" of examples, the Blues took advantage of this young Stars team who had 11 guys on their roster playing in their first career postseason Game 7. Experience won the day last night as the Blues clinched their berth in the Western Conference Finals. The Stars have a solid foundation to build on and will be a threat, they were the number 1 seed in the West this year and I don't fear and significant drop off from them in the next few seasons but like most Stanley Cup winners they will need to build from the net out starting next year.
The Blues on the other hand are poised for a tremendous next series depending on who they get tonight. To say they're hoping for one team over the other is a bit ambitious but I have to think they'd rather play Nashville than San Jose. San Jose has looked better than they have all season and are the Capitals of west for the past few years. (Meaning the always make the playoffs but have yet to make a real good run at the cup). I would love to see a Blues vs. Sharks series next as neither team has a Stanley Cup in their franchises history. Neither has Nashville but I don't think the Preds will be able to win it this year. Funny that we have 3 teams left in the West that have never won a Stanley Cup and the last 6 years 5 of the 6 cups have gone to a Western Conference team. Looking forward to this Game 7 tonight between the San Jose Sharks and the Nashville Predators.
