a blog by La Kifo The owners of the UFC have agreed in principle of a sale of the Ultimate Fighting Championship for $4 billion. I don't really know the whole big picture enough to explain it to you guys, so here's a good video that encompasses every aspect of this sale. What I really hope for this sale is a new, bigger, and better TV deal for the UFC. A new TV deal would start a domino effect that leads to a bigger and better UFC. As it stands now, the UFC has a deal with Fox Sports which will be in place until 2018. Fox Sports broadcasts 4 live events per year, as well as promotions like the Ultimate Fighter, Road to the Octagon, and UFC Fight Night. I would like to see more live events broadcasted on a television network. The simple facts are, MMA won't grow as a pay-per-view event. The sport reaches many more homes by being on a TV network. Once the sport is found by more people, then the fighters can get paid more, and it will attract more people into the sport of MMA giving us the opportunity to see a new generation of fighters better than the ones before.
That is how all major sports have grown. It's really about reaching the youngest generations and convincing them this sport is awesome, that they should commit to this sport. It already is a big sport in places like Brazil, we just need the rest of the world to catch up and it's not like everyone is far behind. There is widespread interest in MMA and the UFC, but it's not even close compared to sports like Soccer, Baseball, American Football, and Basketball. Comments are closed.
