UFC 220 is scheduled for January 20th, 2018. The event will take place at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. It is the first event in the UFC presidents former residence since January of 2016. Dana White's former dominion hosts two title fights, the stakes of which sit at grand proportions.

Booked as the co-main event, Daniel Cormier looks to defend his light heavyweight title against rising contender, Volkan Oezdemir. The Louisiana-born Cormier finds himself in a peculiar position. His most recent bout originally came as a loss, then later overturned to an No Decision. The current 205 lb. champ lost to bitter rival Jon Jones in late July of 2017. In what turned to be a large story for the MMA community, Jones failed an in-competition drug test. The UFC reinstated Cormier as champion after a provisional suspension came down upon Jones pending a trial. For the current champion, a winning performance can help rid the thought of his previous bout from his head.

The main event of the evening features the heavyweights, Stipe Miocic vs. Francis Ngannou. Miocic has the potential to break UFC history in Boston. Currently, the record for most consecutive title defenses in the UFCs heavyweight division is two. A streak which the current champ holds, among the likes of Randy Couture, Tim Sylvia, Cain Velasquez and Brock Lesnar. The Cleveland native has a chance to break the prestigious record held by current UFC Hall of Famers. On a more impressive note, assuming the champion wins, he will have done it while working as a firefighter. A pretty funny thought, the baddest man on the planet, pulling out kittens from trees, posing in calendars and not only saving homes but lives as well.
