a blog by La Kifo The Tennesse Titans earlier today have agreed to in principle to a deal that will send the 1st overall pick in the upcoming draft to the Los Angeles Rams. The deal was reported by NFL medias Ian Rapoport. The deal consists of Tennessee sending the no. 1, 4th round, and 6th round for LA's 2016 1st round pick, two second rounders, and a third. Tennessee will also receive picks from the 2017 draft which are a first and a third.
A blockbuster deal in every sense of the phrase. Why would LA do this? Well Jeff Fischer has been with the Rams for a while now, 4 years. His overall record is 27-36, he has never taken this team to the playoffs. His time might be coming to an end in the Rams organization. This deal is most likely an overreaction to that, if this trade is a huge bust, it wont matter to Fischer because he was likely to be fired anyway. This way Fischer gets to put all his chips on the table, double down before a possible exit. He has nothing to lose. I imagine his plan is to take one of three players Jared Goff, Carson Wentz, or Laremy Tunsil. Laremy Tunsil is considered the best player in the draft and would be a smart pick at no. 1. Now that the Rams have traded away a substantial amount of their future, they CAN NOT draft Laremy Tunsil. A franchise Left Tackle is a key in making a Superbowl Contender but it wont matter if they do not have a QB. Nick Foles looked awful this past season and Fischer definitely doesnt wanna put his job security on the shoulders of Foles. Fischer has to take either Wentz or Goff. Whichever their staff likes better, they must take one of them. The Rams would not make a move like this if they were not going for immediate change and that is what a top 10 QB in the draft should represent. Whether teams are stretching to classify these guys as real "game-changers" or not, they have to take one. If Fischer takes Goff, then I really think he can turn his tenure around with the Rams. So far, Goff is my best bet for an Pro-Bowl/borderline All-pro QB in this draft. He is by far the most athletic and the best arm. On the other hand, Wentz could remind a lot of people of the late great Steve Air McNair. Comparing the two would be insult to McNair, but the small amount of similarities are not very daunting. I like this move by the Rams, a couple of years ago they were on the other side of a deal very similar to this one. They received the kings ransom for the 2nd overall pick from the Washington Skins. Based on that and I am assuming they draft Goff, all of that in mind makes this a good deal for the Rams. Jeff Fischer for life. Comments are closed.
