Yesterday my man Hughie Jackson, released big hittah Donte Whittnah. Whitner is 30 year old 3 time pro bowler who has played for the Browns for 2 seasons, 30 games. Missing two games in his final season 2015.
Whitner broke out with Buffalo Bills where he was drafted in the first round, 8th pick. After 5 years in Buffalo he joined the 49ers and was apart of league leading defense for 3 years before joining Cleveland. He had an off year the past two in Cleveland, he only forced 3 turnovers in the 2 seasons. While not know for his ability to force turnovers he is known for his hard hitting which was not part of his game late in his career in Cleveland. Whitner will find a veteran minimum contract for a team as a back up. Maybe he comes to New England to replace the loss of Tavon Wilson. If he was signed by the Patriots there is a 0% chance he makes it to the opening day roster. He would not even be replacing the role that Wilson played while in New England. Wilson was a cover guy, not a tackler. The patriots do need better tacklers for the run defense which struggled last year, but they resigned Pat Chung to an extension. And I imagine that is a somewhat generous contract. Comments are closed.
