A blog by Big Red Thon Maker, one of the greatest sports names I've ever come across, declared for the NBA draft yesterday. The 19 year old has been tearing up the high school scene for years now, and if you ask me he's just as good as Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram. I first heard of Thon, when I actually saw a video of him and his toothpick looking brother, Matur. Matur is two years younger than Thon, but they can both ball the fuck out. Check out the video I saw a few years back, that put these guys on my map. Remember this was two years ago, they've only gotten better since. Absolutely unbelievable. These guys move like guards, yet Thon is a true 7 footer and his brother is 6'10. The game of basketball is changing boys. Every year we see a new 7 footer who can take it to the rim like some of the best guards in the league. Now obviously, theres a lot this kid can work on, for starters he's the skinniest man i've ever seen. I'm not sure if his parents don't let him eat dinner unless he hits like 5,000 threes in a row. Maybe the kid even punishes himself, like hey I missed that step back 3 from half court tonight, I'm not gonna eat till next tuesday. Idk what it is, but the kid needs to bulk up in order to be successful in the league. However, this kid can flat out ball. He can take you down low, and fade either way like Garnett. He can take you off the dribble, he can lead a fast break. I've watched a few of his live games that have been televised, and the kid can fucking shoot too, from like anywhere on the court. sIf you go to about the 1 minute 15 second mark in the video above, you will see his presence in the paint. I think it shows like 5-6 blocks in a row, and two of them are at the ESPN top 100 camp against the best high school players in the nation. This kid can change an NBA team, even if its not in his rookie season he will eventually come around, he's just too good not too. As for the real question, Will the NBA allow this kid to enter the draft. So Thon Maker, is currently doing a post grad year of high school, his thought process is that maybe by doing this PG year the NBA will count it as my one and done year, and let me into the league early. While there is a slight chance this could work, I doubt it will. The NBA has seen too many players enter the league before they're ready and as a result they can ruin their careers. Do I need to mention Sebastian Telfair? One of the biggest NBA busts of all time. Even though Emmanuel Mudiay is playing pretty well now, I think he would be ten fold better if he went to play college ball for a year rather than playing overseas in China. Thon has offers from every fucking school in the nation, if I were him I'd pick the best coach at getting players in the league (Coach Cal) and go try and win a title. However, if the NBA does let Thon enter the draft, oh boy is this league in for a surprise.
With so many NBA mock draft's changing daily based on march madness I don't know what to expect any more from the draft. Here are my top 5 picks in no particular order. 1. Ben Simmons 2. Brandon Ingram 3. Buddy Hield 4. Thon Maker (if he's allowed) 5. Kris Dunn 6. Dragan Bender if they deny Maker the right to enter draft. I can see all of these guys immediately impacting a team. Recently I saw a few mock drafts that put Ben Simmons at the #2 pick to LA, which would be SO interesting to see because many people do not know this, but D'Angelo Russell and Ben Simmons were high school teammates. They both played together at Montverde Academy in Florida. Anyways, hope you boys enjoyed the blog, and keep your eye's peeled to see if the NBA approves Thon Maker's entry.
