a blog by La Kifo According to IGN, EA is planning on releasing a sequel to the much maligned Star Wars Battlefront that was released in November. Among other things, EA has promised to deliver a real game instead of a less than half complete Beta-type $60 disc. Over the last couple months, I have written more about video games than I have actually played. Sad, yes I know, but it's chill. With the video game market being where it is right now, I am totally fine with it. EA, sold 14 million copies of Star Wars Battlefront and that makes me want to puke. Star Wars Battlefront was a beautiful crafted game, the landscapes, textures and gameplay was the stuff of my dreams. What I failed to foresee in those dreams, was what EA studios would do. What it always does to high grossing titles. Fuck us right up the ass, boys and girls. You may have liked the game, and you are right to think that way. The online gameplay was awesome and even I have to admit I had a blast(er) playing the game. My problem, and everyone else's should be that they gave us significantly less than half of a game. Think about it, how many maps were in this game? Disregard DLCs since those require more payment. How many heroes could we play as? In the original two Battlefront games you could play as fucking Ki-Adi-Mundi. Who by description and small bits of dialogue is revealed as the dumbest/most naive Jedi. You'd think an alien with an enlarged forehead and binary brain would be able to figure that Count Dooku was a murderer and that the Sith were still alive. Both things he was deeply surprised by. Even Ahsoka Tano is in the original games, and she grabs less than a minute in screen time during the prequel trilogy (the original Battlefront games were released before the cartoon series Clone Wars). In the reboot of Star Wars Battlefront, they only allow you to play as two light saber wielding characters.
To me, modern Star Wars has been about cutting corners and stealing the money right out from our pockets. The prequel trilogy was garbage. Anyone who wants to debate that, please get at me. The Force Awakens, was for a lack of better terms a COMPLETE and total scene for scene remake of A New Hope. Don't believe me? The very first scene is an absolute fuck baggery copy of A New Hope. Rebel Alliance soldiers line up outside blast doors and then the Empire busts through and murders every soldier. They are looking for something specific, a blueprint. A blueprint that is found by a significant character just moments before being boarder by the Empire. This character, takes that blueprint, gives it to a droid and sends it out into the middle of nowhere so that the Empire would not be able to find it. The Empire then take that seemingly important character hostage. Remind you of anything? Let me roll back the first scene of The Force Awakens. Some non white dude is talking to an old guy about an important hologram map thing. Something that he happens to find just before the New Order lands down on the planet. The people of this village that the character is in, go grab weapons and attempt to fight the Storm Troopers. They get savagely taken down. This character runs to his ship, then after a series of unfortunate events, loses the ability to fly away. He proceeds to give a droid this map hologram. The New Order take the character hostage. I am not going to describe every scene because that would be annoying and a total waste of everyone's time. If you really loved the Force Awakens, go rewatch A New Hope, it's $2 on youtube. Then you will know what I am talking about. Back to my point. The whole reason I wrote this blog was not to shit on all new things Star Wars. It was to shit on EA and Disney's Star Wars. According to IGN, EA is set to release a sequel to their "hit" Star Wars Battlefront, yet this time it will actually feature a campaign. What will this campaign be based of off? EA will be following Disney's and JJ Abrams baby steps and curtail the campaign towards the remake, The Force Awakens. Instead of doing what makes sense, you know following the timeline release of the movies. What was the point of EA making Star Wars Battlefront and basing it entirely around the original trilogy if they were just going to skip over the prequels? I think everyone can understand, the best battles, the coolest environments, the best Jedi, were all in the prequel trilogy, no matter how shitty the actual movies came out. Wouldn't it have made more sense if they started with the prequels, then gradually followed the timeline? For EA? No. If there is an easy way, EA will take. Any kind of shortcut, marketing scam, or witchcraft is their MO. They cut out the prequels because they knew it would take too much work, too much time, too much money. Instead they jam pack what plays and looks like a beta into a disc and sell it at $60. Is that fair? Fuck no, and it is not like I can get those $60 back. Once you take a game outside the confines of Gamestop, it loses 60% of it's value. Fuck EA. I hate them, but there is nothing I can do. They are a huge game publisher. They are behind almost every single sports franchise game out there. I can't just stop buying Madden every 4 or 5 years, I love Star Wars, NHL is fun, and the new Battlefield looks dope. Those are all published by EA. They are like the evil Empire, stretching their influence across the entire galaxy of gaming. Fuck You EA. Comments are closed.
