I'm still cracking up at how bad this question is.
So Prince Fielder's 300 pound ass is retiring for sad reasons. After two serious and season ending neck injuries, doctors told Fielder that he is medically unable to continue to play Major League Baseball. Although I still resent him for the shit show that was his two years in Detroit, this is still sad. The guy was a great talent for a while, until he came to Detroit. He held a press conference today to announce his retirement and it was all going just peachy until one reporter asked one of the worst questions of all time. Here it is, in all its glory.
If you didn't catch it, the reporter asked "do you kind of understand now what Lou Gehrig was going through during his speech?" Holy hell just reading it makes me scared for the current state of journalism. For those of you who don't know, Lou Gehrig made a speech to announce his retirement on July 4, 1939. One of the greatest speeches ever, Gehrig's speech was delivered while suffering from ALS....also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, one of the most crippling and devastating diseases known to man. How was this question and comparison even a rational thought to this bonehead reporter??
