Pakistani Women allegedly Threw acid on Boyfriend After his Refusal to Marry her

Throwing acid on people is some run of the mill stuff for Pakistan, so this was almost a non-story. But what I found was very atypical of the Pak.

A woman in Pakistan was arrested for allegedly throwing acid on a man who refused to marry her, police said Friday, marking an unusual case in a country where rates of violence against women are high. Local police official Bashir Ahmed said the 32-year-old woman, Monil Mai, was arrested Thursday, hours after she attacked her boyfriend Sadaqat Ali when he went to her home in the Mukhdoom Rashid neighborhood of Multan, a city in central Pakistan.

Ahmed said that Mai had been having an affair with Ali for several years. She wanted him to marry her so that she could divorce her husband, he said. Ali was being treated at a hospital in Multan, in the eastern Punjab province, Ali said.

Acid attacks and other so-called honor crimes against women are not unusual in Pakistan, but women are rarely the perpetrators of such attacks. “It is a rare incident in which a woman has been accused of throwing acid on a man,” said Zohra Yusuf, who heads the independent Human Rights Commission of Pakistan. She urged the government to take steps to stop the sale of acid to unauthorized persons.

Shocking. I thought you weren't allowed to have sex unless you are married. I don't think you are allowed to have sex with anyone you want once you get married, especially if you're a women in that country.  I am pretty sure Pakistani people killed women for showing their ankles. I feel like people aren't making a big deal about that. Are they going to execute her? Lock her in a labor camp?

Whatever though, I hope they don't execute her. We need more people to throw acid for minimal reasons. If the Pakis don't want her, then we'll take her, just toss her on the extradition train. 

For me, the best part of this was the last sentence of the last paragraph. Give that a reread. Is the Pakistani government really selling acid? Not only are they selling acid, they are selling it to anyone who can pay, no ID or anything. Also, what would be an authorized use of acid? Someone's goat lacked in the past two harvests, so he has to be executed in front of the other goats to show dominance? What do you ever need acid for when you live in a desert? If Pakistan was a westernized democracy, then none of this would have happened. This chick would have to hit up Walmart and make her own acid.
