a blog by La Kifo The founder of Alibaba, an online retailer, recently claimed the knock-off products his online retail site sells have become better quality than the products they mimic. Consumerist: Chinese online retail giant Alibaba Group seems to want to have it both ways with low-cost knockoff products — simultaneously offering a popular portal for sellers of these lookalike items to reach the world and claiming to be actively cracking down on the sale of these same products. The company’s founder now says one the reasons it can’t just shut off this pipeline of too-similar brand-name apparel and tech products is that these China-made items are now just as good or better than the more expensive products they imitate. “The problem is that the fake products today, they make better quality, better prices than the real products, the real names,” Jack Ma, founder and chairman of Alibaba Group told investors in China this morning, according to Bloomberg. “It’s not the fake products that destroy them, it’s the new business models.” Ma’s statement meshes with previous reports that some counterfeiters were stepping up their game, making better quality products and selling them for higher prices. Very few large tech and apparel companies have their own factories. Most outsource manufacturing and assembly to outside firms in China, and elsewhere, that sometimes turn around and make nearly identical products. Jack Me Off is a clown, which fits the description of many factory owners/manufacturers in China and the Asian continent where labor laws are nearly non-existent. If you've watched Shark Tank, or are involved in manufacturing/production then you know how many snakes sit in the tall Asian grass. Being involved in both production/manufacturing and Shark Tank, I can speak on behalf of many similar experiences. At least once, I have heard on the show a contestant who went to a manufacturer in China with their product only to find some time later that the manufacturer had totally stolen their product and had started making knock-off products, undercutting their business.
Fuck this guy. He operates mainly out of a communist country and what do you think he is blaming for the millions hes raking in on counterfeit/knock-off products? Capitalism and the "new" business model. What I don't think this guy understands is that he is operating under the same principle of the people he is ripping off. Unless he is giving away the millions on millions to the Chinese government, I don't think he is operating under the communist banner. He claims that the knock off products he's selling are better quality, but are they? Fuck no. Go check for yourself. Look at a GoPro camera, then go to Alibaba and look up action cameras. What you would find is thousands of knock off GoPro cameras that in 0 ways are better or higher quality than the real GoPro. But why is he saying this? Because he's smart. As much as I would want to call this guy a dumbass or moron, I can't. Who are Chinese citizens going to believe, the an American or a guy who works in the Asian industry and himself is from Asia? He knows it doesn't matter how blatantly obvious this lie was, because the majority of his demographic will take it as fact and validation that they are smart by buying from Alibaba. I got pretty riled up about this but honestly this doesn't really matter. Who ever is buying from Alibaba can keep doing it because I don't know a single person who does. Keep buying the clearly shitty knock-offs, you'll have to buy a new one every year. Fuck Alibaba, unless they wanna do some promos or something. Comments are closed.
