a blog by Iron Horse Ahhhh the day is finally here (hopefully), we were fooled yesterday by what seemed to be cancellation for a cold day. When asked about his thoughts on the delay for Opening Day, David Price mentioned he was slightly disappointed as he was ready to make his Red Sox debut yesterday. When looking back on David Price’s career, as I have always been a big fan of his even with his brief stint in Detroit and his short season in Toronto, and his extended time with the Rays.
People will not like what I’m about to say because it seems pretty irrelevant, but in David Price’s case this has been an issue. Yesterday when asked about not playing Price said that he was okay with not playing today though because of the current weather. “This is what guys get hurt, get sick in.” The entire month of April (typically the coldest month in the baseball regular season) is David Price’s kryptonite, it is by far his worst ERA in a regular season month at 3.84. Which if you’ve watched this crafty lefty, is not characteristic of his play at all. Unless the playoffs were in April where he has also struggled, but the classic is in October, baseballs other coldest month of the year. In 8 starts in October David Price is 2-7 with a 5.12 ERA. So look for the Sox to have to swing the bat today if it’s a little bit to chilly for Boston’s big offseason acquisition. Because of Prices struggles in the cold weather, the Sox may have to look at the trade market or somewhere else on their team to plug the holes that chilly weather does to their ace. As of now, the team is well rounded. Come August, September, and October the Sox will need an established number 2 pitcher. “Why not us” Comments are closed.
