Josh Norman found himself in an odd predicament as the all-pro was cut from the NFC champion Carolina Panthers. Norman was the best corner in football last season, a touchdown away from a championship, and now he will be playing in a new city.
Carolina made the right move considering the long term. Josh Norman was released Wednesday after the Panthers revoked his franchise tag. He was seeking a large contract. In the range of 13-15 million. Carolina clearly did not want to commit the largest contract for a cornerback in the NFL. Today Norman signed Norman signed with Washington Redskins for 5 years $75 million, $50 million guaranteed.
This really changes the landscape of power in the NFC East. The Redskins now have the best defense in that division. Which is a great sign for Washington fans , they were 9-7 last season after Kirk Cousins inaugural season. They won the division and made the playoffs. With Norman they will repeat as division champions.
The Panthers could not afford to pay a 28 year old $15 million a year. They will have to be drafting a corner or two this year. They still have a good defense, but not a top 5 anymore. Comments are closed.
