Skip Bayless is officially leaving ESPN and First Take for Fox Sports One, and while I am not pleased that he is still on TV, this is still slight progress.
You see, I am one of many Americans who absolutely hates Skip Bayless. I hate him as a sports journalist, as a TV host, and as a person. Now, of course, this seems a little harsh. But ever since the tragic date of May 8, 2007, when ESPN hired Bayless and fellow moron Stephen A. Smith to do First Take, the professions of journalist and sports TV personality have gone to the gutter.
Bayless seems to take pride in making picks and predictions that are so blatantly wrong and flat out dumb that it actually results in people tuning into his show, which makes him get paid more. So Bayless is basically being an idiot and getting paid for it, kind of like being a politician. But this is not the sole reason why Skip makes me want to jump off the top of the Green Monster. He is notorious for tweeting predictions that end up being so wrong, it’s almost comical. It would be more comical if he were not being paid thousands of dollars for his tweets. For example, hours before the 2014 NFL draft, Bayless tweeted
Now, before I get into why this is absolute idiocy, I want to mention that I realize hindsight is always 20/20 and that you can look back at anyone’s predictions that did not turn out correct. But at the end of this article, you will see how different his tweets are than any other prediction tweets. But back to his tweet, heading into the 2014 draft, the Texans were coming off an absolute nightmare of a season. They had gone 2-14 and had lost 14 straight games to end the year. Something needed to change, but not their quarterback. The Texans might have needed a QB but their defense had more holes than Swiss cheese. So why on Earth would they draft a quarterback?? Luckily, the Texans have better things to do than listen to simpleton Skip, and they drafted Jadeveon Clowney, a defensive standout from South Carolina. While Clowney did have an injury riddled rookie season, his sophomore campaign was significantly better than anything Johnny Manziel has accomplished, such as failing drug tests, abusing his girlfriend, getting dropped by every sponsor, and don’t forget the time he showed up to a Browns practice drunk. Bayless also tweeted before the 2014-15 NBA season that Derek Fisher would be a better head coach than Steve Kerr. Steve Kerr not only won an NBA championship that year but also won Coach of the Year, while the Knicks, whom Fisher coached, finished in dead last in their conference.
Another reason to despise Skip Bayless is that when he is confronted about his inaccurate predictions and his bold, often dumb statements, is that he tends to turn to generalities, as shown by the time Skip was confronted by Dallas Mavericks’ owner Mark Cuban on First Take. Cuban pointed out that Bayless is famous for using phrases that cannot technically be proven wrong and using generalities, such as being “under extreme pressure” and that contrary to what Bayless thinks, players such as LeBron James are not constantly thinking about what he has to say. Bayless went so far as to say that the reason James won his first NBA title in the 2011-12 season was because “he took my advice. He shut out all the critics, including me.”
No Skip, the reason he won a championship was because his team was more athletic than the Thunder, made more key shots down the stretch, and played better defense. But yeah you’re the reason they won, you sports God!
The last reason that Skip Bayless is an embarrassment to sports journalism is that he actually takes pride in the fact that so many people hate him. Now, I am not saying he should be affected by the millions who hate him, because you cannot let people get you down. However, there has to be something you are doing wrong if so many people not only hate you, but can write blogs, essays, and full college scholarly articles on why you are not an educated source to rely on. But the best part about it is that Skip says that he enjoys how many people disagree with him and find what he does to be bad. If that does not scream egotistical and just plain embarrassing, I do not know what does. In conclusion, the world would be a much better place if Skip Bayless had never been put on the public airwaves. The guy is a passive aggressive child with terrible predictions/opinions who cares only about his own image and ego. As a sports journalist, this is not the type of person I really want to represent my profession. Please retire and deactivate your Twitter account, Skip. You would be doing all of us and yourself a huge favor. Comments are closed.
