The Boston Bruins today signed David Backes to a 5-year $30 million dollar deal.
Quick hot take on this signing, it makes this move a lot more stomach-able knowing we won't be paying Loui Eriksson that type of money seeing as Loui signed a deal in Vancouver today. Loui signed a 6 year deal for 36 million so knowing that we basically got the better of 2 players for 1 less year is awesome. It makes for an interesting debate since they're both turning 37 at the end of their deals.
I think the Bruins win this sign off because I believe Backes plays more of a Boston Bruins style of hockey than Loui. Plus I believe he has more dimensions as a physical player, and a true center himself although I think they'll have to stick him out on the right wing with Krejci or Bergeron.
Just by the way here's a little glimpse of what the Bruins just added if you are unaware...
