a blog by Big Red So the draft has come and gone, and I have no idea what Danny Ainge and the Boston Celtics are doing. If someone could do me a favor and tell me what his master plan is that would be greatly appreciated.. It was clear that the Celtics needed shooting, and while Guerschon Yabusele is supposedly a decent shooter, I just don't think he's the answer. Not to mention were now chock full of european guys. First we signed Jerebko to a 2 year deal, now we got this frenchman Yabusele, and now we add the Croatian Ante Zizic with our 23rd pick. Now everyone's saying Zizic has potential to be great in about 4 years, but the Celtics are in a WIN NOW mode. We have a group of young guys that are constantly getting better and better the more they play together, and then we add these 2 European dudes? Come on Ainge, you can do way better than this!
To everyone who is excited about Jaylen Brown being selected at the 3rd pick, I don't think you know anything about Brown. While he is physically ready for the NBA, he's not skilled enough to play at this level yet. He still needs a lot of work and will definitely be a project for Brad Stevens and the Celtics. The guy can't shoot to save his fucking life. Not to mention Brown had 105 turnovers on only 67 assists. That was the leading stat for college basketball players who had 60 plus assists. WHICH IS NOT GOOD FOR THE CELTS. We do not need another guy making poor offensive plays and turning the ball over because that job is already being executed to perfection by Evan Turner. Hopefully, Turner gets picked up by another team during free agency this summer, as I don't need another season long headache watching him try to take over a game by himself... I'll say this though, I have faith in Danny Ainge and the Celtics organization. Maybe they see something in Jaylen Brown that the rest of us are missing. And hey, it is possible that Brown just had a tough shooting year, and could be much better than he showed during his freshmen year at Cal. After all he did shoot 38% from downtown throughout his high school career. Fingers crossed, that this pick works out, but at the very least he should be somewhat of a decent bench player for the Celtics this year. I was just hoping we would have gone with a guy like Kris Dunn, someone that could immediately impact our offense. Ainge went on the record today saying, "I'm confident we are moving in the right direction. We still have free agency and a lot of money to spend in the free agent market to still build our team." And there you have it. Just because the Celts didn't make a big trade last night, doesn't mean were out of the race. We still have a tiny bit of a shot at Kevin Durant. Maybe there's a slight chance if we offer him enough money, and if Jaylen Brown looks good in the summer league, he may consider coming to Boston. Plus this years free agency is filled with some pretty solid talent. I wouldn't mind the Celtics making a play at the up and coming Jordan Clarkson of the Los Angeles Lakers. A guy that is a pretty decent shooter, but shows even more promise with his athleticism and ability to take the ball to the basket. Then we got established players like Bradley Beal, Chandler Parsons, and Harrison Barnes all three of which I'd be more than happy to see wearing green at the TD Garden. For now we will have to wait and see if Ainge makes any moves with the draft picks we chose last night, and we'll have to wait a week for July 1st to strike and free agency to begin. Hang in there boys, I know last night was rough for a lot of nba teams... Comments are closed.
