Adam Silver and the NBA owners are swimming in money, or will be, due to a three year pilot program which allows NBA teams to sell ad space on their jerseys. The losers of the 2016 NBA Finals are asking for a kings ransom in exchange for their ad space.
I guess I am a hater. To be fair, it's not hard to hate a team whose NBA best regular season record was not enough to win the Finals, or a team whose roster broke the regular season record is not good enough to win multiple NBA Finals. Whatever way you want to say it, the Golden State Warriors are a bunch of bitches. Steph Curry is a bitch, Kevin Durant is a bitch, Draymond Green is a bitch, Joe Lacob and Peter Guber are nerd ass bitches (I can't hate Steve Kerr or Klay Thompson, there is something about the way Klay carries himself, I don't know, what is the word. Oh yes, professional. Klay Thompson carries himself like a professional unlike a Steph Curry who quits in Conference Championship games, who quits in Finals games. Andre Iguodala is another guy I don't hate. Just wanted to clear that up.)
According to Darren Rovell, the asking price of the Golden State Warriors is larger than any other NBA team. The Philadelphia 76ers are the only NBA team to strike a deal, they inked a 3 year $15 million deal with StubHub. That is $5 million a year, the Golden State Warriors are asking for between $15 - $20 million per year, and they lost, they didn't win.
Some people may say, they deserve that they were the best regular season team in the history of the NBA. That would be somewhat fair, but you know what I'm going to think in 10 years? Not that they had a great regular season run, that they beat the Bulls regular season wins record. I will remember a team that thought they were better than everyone else. A team with so much ego and cockness, that it actually cost them the title. The whole point of the regular season in any sport is to separate the good from the bad, the regular season only matters in the context of getting into the playoffs. The championship is what really matters in sports, it is the reason for all the regular season bullshit. So when you try and sell me on the "We were the best team ever in the regular season", I don't give a fuck. You didn't win the Championship, You didn't win the Championship, You didn't win the Championship.
Then you go out and steal Kevin Durant from the Celtics. You already had essentially three max contract players, Kevin Durant now makes 4. The Warriors are going to need to get $20 million per ad just to pay all their players. It's pathetic and a total over reaction to something a lot of basketball experts have known for a long time, it is hard to win a championship as a jump shooting team. The Warriors did it two seasons ago as a jump shooting team, but they failed this past season. Now, they are locked into that mold of jump shooting. Signing KD gives them virtually no space to fill out their bench. That means they can't go out and get a high end rebounder or rim protector. They have to either convince veterans to take minimum salaries or scrape from the bottom of the bucket.
If the Warriors don't win the NBA Finals next season we will see the hate rain down like a monsoon. For now it'll just be fair weather fans hoping up onto the bandwagon. Comments are closed.
