Introducing Ryan Betro, a Junior at Walpole High School, and star of their football team. Next year Ryan plans to attend Lawrence Academy in Groton, MA, where he will repeat his junior year in hopes of furthering his knowledge and skills in football. Oh and by the way he just so happens to be my COUSIN.
Before we get into Ryan's highlights I want to make one thing clear, I would not talk up my cousin if I didn't think he was this good. He truly is the real deal, and has an unbelievably bright future in football. Ryan is 6'4 260 pounds and runs a 5.0 second 40 yard dash. He has only been playing football for about 4 years now, and in that time has developed one of the best football IQ's in the high school level. Not to mention he has one of the most ridiculous work ethics I've ever seen. Check out a picture of him in middle school vs. what he looks like now.
Ryan plays both sides of the ball as an offensive and defensive tackle for the Walpole Rebels. Before I say anything else let's just watch the damn thing already. So without further ado here is a link to his hudl page.
Just in case the hudl link didn't work for you here's the direct url: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/4787259/ryan-betro I did not want to post all of his highlights in the blog because it would make the page load really slowly. So I only attached his highlights against Norwood High School at the bottom of the blog. Make sure to click the hudl page link at the top to catch his full defensive highlights, trust me they're nasty. So far the following schools have reached out to Ryan: Boston College ( I believe he has a visit with the team coming up in the next few weeks), Coastal Carolina, Yale, Assumption College, and Merrimack. Not to mention, Nick Saban watched his highlight reel a couple months ago. I'm not a huge football guy, so I'm not going to be able to tell you what he needs to work on, and what he's doing perfect. But I can tell you the things I noticed. For starters, he has great speed for his size. If you watched his junior year defensive highlights, then you'll notice he was able to chase down the ball and make some crazy touchdown saving tackles. His speed is already up to par for the college level. In addition, I noticed that he has a very quick jump off the ball on offense and defense. Not to mention, his defensive spin move is lethal when combined with his quick jump on the ball. It makes for a tough matchup for any offensive line. Although I said I would not post highlights in this blog, Ryan's best plays against Norwood high school are too good not to post. Check out some of his top plays in Walpole's head to head matchup against Division 2 Norwood High School. Norwood is a great team in Division 2, in fact they have made a very solid run at the Division 2 Superbowl the last 5-6 years.
On the 3rd or 4th play of this video posted above, Ryan spins the offensive tackle right off the snap, then dives over the oncoming cut block from Norwood's running back tackling their QB and forcing him to throw an interception.
THE FOOTBALL GUYS TAKE: So I am a football expert and there is a lot to like about Betro if you're a college scout. Size, and weight alone he is an ideal Tackle or Defensive End at the division 1 or 1A level. Then you look at his speed. His football speed is great, and his timed speed 5.0 seconds for a junior or sophomore is pretty ridiculous. I love his spin move, he just needs a tiny bit more consistency on that move, but for the most part that is a money move. He is great second level blocker, he can explode through holes and take out linebackers/defensive backs. Great down the field hustle, you can see him chase down players constantly. The only thing I would want him to work on is his block shedding moves but as a junior he will for sure develop more and better moves so I am not worried about it. Comments are closed.
